Selecting The Right Engineering College for B.Tech

Btech or bachelor of technology is one of the most prestigious undergraduate courses after school. Lakhs of students every year give various national as well as state level exams for getting admissions into good engineering colleges which they believe will fulfill their dreams to be good technical professionals in future. The national level exams include IIT and AIEEE which are conducted by CBSE along with the various state level exams that are conducted by the states like Orissa jee and West bengal jee which give special provisions to the students of these particular states to take admissions in good b tech colleges. Various other private institutes such as Bits pilani, Vellore institute of technology, Kalinga institute of information technology and Manipal institute of technology conduct their own entrance exams to get admissions in these colleges. Altogether a total of around 14 lakhs students appear in these examinations.
Different institutes specialize in various fields of engineering, the basic of which being mechanical, electrical, electronics, information technology, civil and computer science. A candidate can choose his or her own preferable field depending on his own choice and the seats available in that branch in that particular college. South Indian cities such as Bengaluru and Hyderabad have been known to be IT hubs for decades so the colleges in these states basically specialize in information technology and computer science whereas the North Indian cities are known for the core branches such as mechanical and electrical sciences, so the colleges here basically specialize in these sectors.
Among some of the well known colleges of North India include Delhi Technical Campus which has been climbing steps of success and will soon be among the top 5 colleges of North India. Its central location is accessible by all the neighboring states and the institution has been known to provide good placements to students of the last passing batch.
For getting into a Btech College, a student has to first clear the cutoff of the written exams whichever is acceptable by that institute and after that has to attend the counseling to decide which branch of engineering he has to get into. The in campus placements of the colleges also depend on the branches one has chosen to study into. Different companies like TCS, WIPRO and INFOSYS want professionals in computer science and information technology so they recruit from these branches whereas companies like TATA STEEL, TELCO and TECH MAHINDRA want professionals from the core branches so they recruit accordingly. So before getting into any good college, one has to decide before hand where one wants to see himself in the next 4 years of his life. Just getting into a good college is not enough, you also have to get into a branch of your choice which will help you in future.
